It is always a pleasure to collaborate with Lowlands Festival, especially when this gives me the opportunity of organising the premiere of real screwball film such as this one.
I’ve seen SICK BIRDS DIE EASY last year at New Horizons festival in Wroclaw – where it won the ‘Film on Art’ competition – and tried to screen it in The Netherlands since then. I am very glad that this is finally happening.
The film will be screened on Sunday 17 August 17.00h in Lowlands’ cinema (Echo tent). If you’re attending the festival, don’t miss it!
SICK BIRDS DIE EASY

American film director Nik Fackler embarks on a reckless adventure to the jungle of Gabon in search of iboga, a potent psychedelic plant said to have the ability to heal drug addiction.
Fackler assembles a group of kooky friends to make the trip to Western Africa and sample the drug. The director, a conspiracy theorist loaded with drugs, a love-drunk musician, his girlfriend and a film crew travel deep into the jungle. What initially begins as a trip towards enlightenment, becomes a desperate attempt at maintaining sanity in the midst of drugs-fuelled chaos.
Caught in between the members of an iboga cult, deadly fauna, angry locals and growing tensions among the group, the friends and the film crew need to find a way to get out of a situation that is quickly spiralling out of control. The resulting film is a feverish, hilarious and totally delirious gonzo documentary!
